2011 Audi A7 Spy

Here are the first spy shots of the 2011 Audi A7, which our shooters caught uncovered and undisguised in a German test lab. The resemblance to the Audi Sportback concept from the 2009 Detroit Auto Show is unmistakable. Still, subtle changes to this prototype's front fascia are visible, as the concept hatchback's cleanly styled front air intakes have been replaced with more conventional inlets resembling cars in Audi's current lineup. The headlamp design is also toned down quite a bit.

It looks similar to the A5 Sportback but with different B and C pillars. Typical of a sports coupe the front doors have no frames. The small rear side window is sharper than the more kinked A5's. Overall the A7 seems lower and longer too, with stretched front and rear overhangs. An aerodynamics spoiler sits atop the boot lid which appears to have the same opening style as the Porsche Panamera's.

In one of the detail shots after the jump, you'll see that the A7's hatch treatment has all the sass of the Sportback concept's, but there's what appears to be a spoiler atop the rear deck. We hope that's a temporary addition, or at the very least a deletable option.

As a high-end vehicle the A7 will sport some pretty powerful engines, including a 3.0-litre force-fed petrol, a new turbo V8 and a V8 TDI pulling around 800Nm. Quattro AWD will feature and work in tandem with a 7-speed automatic transmission.

The 2011 Audi A7 is expect to go on sale in late 2010.

Spy Shots: 2011 Nissan GT-R SpecM

Spied recently testing at the Nurburgring, the SpecM will retain the same core performance package of the GT-R, but with a host of upgraded features--high-end audio, upgraded interior materials and a generally 'bespoke' feel. The only visible changes are likely to be a set of new bumpers, both front and rear. If you look closely at the spy shots, you will notice small vents positioned in the rear bumper near the exhaust tips.

Earlier this year we saw the introduction of the limited-production GT-R SpecV model, a stripped down version of the already extreme Japanese supercar designed for hardcore club racers and performance nuts. As previous GT-R generations have shown, however, Nissan was never going to rest with just one special edition of its halo model. New info revealed today gives us even more info on the luxury-oriented SpecM.

The biggest difference, however, between the standard GT-R and new SpecM will be the price. According to a new report, the SpecM will be more expensive than the SpecV, which is already double the price of the standard GT-R in Japan. Expect a pricetag around the ¥18,000,000 mark (approximately $ 201,691)--exotic supercar territory. More details should be forthcoming closer to the car’s expected launch early next year.

While the SpecV is focused on reducing weight, the SpecM will be focused on increasing comfort. Expect to see a revised suspension package, slightly more biased to a civil city ride, in addition to the upgraded interior with new trim options and colors, as well as unique seats and special items. The SpecM will be all about customization and as such almost every car will be different--something similar to Ferrari’s One-to-One and Lamborghini’s Ad Personam customization programs.

As for the SpecM, the mechanical package should remain unchanged to the standard GT-R’s, which means we can expect an output of 485 horsepower and 434 pound-feet of torque.

Spy Video: 2012 BMW F30 3-Series

The video appears to have been shot on Munich's Schleißheimer Straße, close to BMW Headquarters.

2012 BMW 3 Series full body prototype first spy photos

A new spy video showing the 2012 BMW 3-Series surfaced earlier today. The 30-second clip shows the company's prototype while waiting to take a turn at an intersection.

2012 BMW 3 Series full body prototype first spy photos

The 2012 BMW 3 Series is expected to be introduced in 2011, possibly at the Frankfurt Motor Show. It will likely debut with several six-cylinder engines, and possibly a small, turbocharged, four-cylinder petrol unit. Some rumors have persisted claiming that a hybrid version of the car will show up in a few markets. Speculation also suggests the car may have a lighter weight, while getting a longer wheelbase.

Unfortunately, BMW is keeping their cars close to their vest with the 3er development. The video shows a vehicle with the same amount of camouflage as the one spied in weeks past. With the same five-point wheels, the only item distinguishing the prototypes is the number plate. At least we are able to hear the engine's growl.

The next generation BMW M3 will appear a year later.

Spy: 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Testing in Detroit

The 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee is a complete redesign of a great American SUV. It debuted at the NY International Auto Show to some great press and fanfare. This is a ‘can’t miss’ for Chrysler’s Jeep brand. I can’t see Jeep surviving without a successful Grand Cherokee in the line up.

The new Grand Cherokee will have an all new ‘upgraded’ interior with great materials to rival the SUVs of Lexus, Porsche and BMW. The exterior gets the ‘soft’ treatment in my opinion, softer lines (less boxy than the WK) yet still substantial in it’s styling. This one is in flat black with the usual chrome trim. I wonder if they’ll offer this as a color choice!

2011 Volvo V60 Rendered

Based on the same platform as the S60, the new V60 wagon is expected to debut late next year as a 2011 model and follow in the footsteps of previous Volvo wagons like the V40, V50 and V70 lines. It would also serve as a more stylish rival to other premium wagons like the BMW 3-Series Touring, Mercedes-Benz C-Class Estate, Audi A4 Avant and the upcoming Acura TSX Sport Wagon.

Wearing the bold lines of Volvo’s new family styling, the V60 would likely feature the same engine options as the S60 sedan - although Volvo remains tight-lipped on the specifics for now.
Looking to take a larger slice of the prestige market, Volvo will likely aim the V60 at the likes of the BMW 3 Series Touring, Audi A4 Avant and Mercedes-Benz C-Class estate.
The 2011 Volvo S60 sedan is scheduled to debut at the Geneva Motor Show next March, and while there is no official word on a wagon variant, March is a long time away…

Powertrain options will almost certainly be shared with the S60. One option is likely to be a new 1.6-liter gasoline unit with turbocharging and direct-injection technologies--a spinoff of a Ford EcoBoost mill.

Latest spy shots: 2011 BMW 6-Series

2011 BMW 6-Series prototype spy photo

The design of the upcoming 6-Series will certainly be taking cues from the current 7-Series but also be inspired by the CS Concept. The wide grill and headlamps providing for a mean-eyed cat look fitting to the performance model's identity.

2011 BMW 6-Series prototype spy photo

Spy photographer reports that there has been a dry spell in spotting the upcoming 6-Series in testing (since spring) because BMW insiders say there have been some hiccups in the brand's development of the performance coupe/convertible.

2011 BMW 6-Series prototype spy photo

According to insiders it appears they've settled upon a rigid roof coupe plus a canvas-top convertible version as indicated with shots of this 6-Series with a canvas only roof as confirmed by our spy photographer who checked inside and knocked on it with his hand.

2011 BMW 6-Series prototype spy photo

BMW had some trouble deciding whether the 6-Series would come only as a single model convertible with a folding hardtop, or as two models - a rigid roof coupe and a convertible with a soft top. That would explain why previous prototypes were spotted with an ill-fitting canvas top laid over a supposed folding hard top.

2011 BMW 5-Series Touring Spy

The new 5-Series Touring is expected to arrive 12 months after the reveal of the Sedan, which is making its world debut at March's 2010 Geneva Motor Show, and these latest spy shots give us a glimpse of how it will look. Most of the planned changes for the 2011 BMW 5-Series will be skin-deep.

Looky, looky – it's another piece of future German metal disguised to look like MC Escher on peyote. But what is it? Well, unlike the never ending back-and-forth between the A6 and/or the A8, we're certain this is the new 2011 5 Series Touring, a.k.a. a Bimmer station wagon or "Kombi" as they call 'em over in Europe. Not bad, right? Kinda lithe yet athletic at the same time. Good looking, too. And let's not forget the M versions of these puppies. Only thing is, what we think probably doesn't matter – odds are we'll never see the 5 Series Touring here in the States.

Performance will also be improved thanks to the extensive use of lightweight materials including carbon-fiber and aluminum. The car’s construction will be a mix of an aluminum spaceframe for the front section and a traditional steel monocoque for the passenger compartment and rear. This will ensure a favorable front-to-rear weight distribution and improved handling. Up front will be an independent suspension with MacPherson struts, with a multi-link layout for the rear. High-performance models, such as the next M5, will possibly include carbon-fiber body panels to shed even more weight.

A few reasons. Never mind the nearly 1,000 pound weight advantage of the wagon (around 4,000 pounds) over the GT (about 4,800 pounds) – which should bring with it better mileage, performance and handling – to its detractors, the Gran Turismo just has an air of Chrysler Pacifica about it. Of course, since the day it came out, many of us auto-journo types have been asking why one would buy the SUV-ish X5 when the hauls-just-as-much-stuff 5 Series wagon is not only available but costs less, goes quicker, handles better, etc. Looks like BMW just might just disarm that line of questioning altogether. Maybe.

Video; Full details for Next BMW M5 F10

The next BMW M5 will be the first to have a turbocharged engine. News of the car's development comes by way of Autocar, who interviewed M division development chief Albert Bierman. Bierman says development of the next-gen M5 is well under way.

    BMW M5 F10 spy photo

The engine’s output remains secret. But with the same unit pumping out 555bhp in the X5 and X6 M, the new car should stick to the M5 tradition of being more powerful than the car it replaces.

The most noticeable difference will be the way the new engine delivers its power. The V10’s 500bhp comes at 7750rpm, but the V8’s peak power should arrive at not much more than 6000rpm.

BMW M5 F10 spy photos on Nurburgring

Although fuel consumption, and emissions, are expected to be reduced, a hybrid version similar to that of the Active Hybrid 7 is not expected. This decision is due to the added weight (100kg) a hybrid system would cause, a contrast to the car's carbon-fiber roof and trunk. Look for a new, seven-speed dual-clutch transmission to be on the vehicle, similar to that shown on the 25th anniversary M5. LED lighting, better aerodynamics, and a double-wishbone front suspension should also exist on the car.

BMW M5 F10 spy photos on Nurburgring

The BMW has just introduced a new petrol-electric hybrid system on its new Active Hybrid 7, it has not been considered for the M5 due to the 100kg it adds to the car’s weight.

    BMW M5 F10 spy photo

The new M5 will continue the car’s tradition of visual understatement with a muscular appearance. LED lighting will be used to enhance the look and differentiate the M5 from the standard 5-series, a new generation of which is due early next year.

Ferrari 612 Scaglietti replacement spotted Spy

Ferrari is reportedly currently working on the three V12 cars that will replace its comparable current offerings: the 612 Scaglietti, 599 GTB, and Enzo. The 612's follow-on will be the first one to arrive, likely in early 2012, and another mule has been spotted out and about. It still sports the hood scoop (bigger engine with more power, anyone?) and California-style stacked tailpipes, and it looks like it might have a longer wheelbase to boot.

Rumor has it that the new direct-injected V12 will be 40 percent less polluting and get 40 percent better gas mileage than the 5.7-liter V12 presently in use, even as it's expected to get a slight 7-horsepower bump to 540. The fuel economy increase would provide a very respectable 16 MPG – not bad for a car that ought to hustle to 60 MPH in about 4.5 seconds. Check out a host of new spy photos in our gallery below. In case you're curious, the sticker on the steering wheel boss which reads "Betrieb nur mit geschlossener Motorhaube" is an instruction telling drivers that the engine should only be started with the hood closed.

2012 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti Successor Test-Mule Spy

2012 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti successor test-mule spy shots

While this test-mule was previously thought to be for a minor mid-cycle facelift for the 612 Scaglietti, key details such as the extended front-end, bonnet bulge, longer wheelbase and stacked exhaust pipes suggest this vehicle represents something much more significant than a facelift.

2012 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti successor test-mule spy shots

It seems like just yesterday that Ferrari's 612 Scaglietti was launched but it's actually been almost five years, which is why it’s not surprising that test-mules for the car’s successor are already running around the streets of Maranello. Designers will be primarily focused on giving it an edgier, more up-to-the-minute look, however, the new look may be joined by a greener powertrain as well.

2012 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti successor test-mule spy shots

If the report proves true, the Scaglietti successor will have a fuel economy of roughly 19 mpg--up from 11.5 mpg for the current model. Power isn't expected to grow much, as the 612’s standard 533 horsepower output is already generous.

2012 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti successor test-mule spy shots

Not much is known about the successor to the 612 as the car’s is expected to make its launch until late 2011, but according to previous reports the car could feature a brand new V-12 powerplant. The new engine is tipped to have 40% fewer carbon-dioxide emissions than the current mill, which would fit Ferrari’s internal goal of reducing its emissions and fuel-consumption by that same amount by 2012.

Spy Shots: BMW M3 Convertible Facelift

    2010 BMW M3 Cabrio Prototype

A facelift BMW M3 Convertible was spied driving in Germany. It follows cosmetic upgrades to the 3 Series range announced in 2008. Changes will include new rear LED lights as well as interior modifications such as a new iDrive system and pearlescent chrome light switch cluster.

    2010 BMW M3 Cabrio Prototype

The car should go on sale in early 2010 equipped with the likes of a 6-speed manual transmission (7-speed M-DCT optional), bi-xenon headlights, dual climate control, DVD changers and a full leather interior sold as standard or optionally depending on the market.

    2010 BMW M3 Cabrio Prototype

No changes are expected for the engine which remains a naturally aspirated 4.0-litre V8 making 309kW (420hp) and 400Nm of torque. It goes from 0 - 100km/h in 5.3 seconds and reaches a top speed of 250km/h.

2011 Audi A8 Spy

Camouflaged prototypes of the 2011 Audi A8 have been caught running the Nurburgring, and accompanying these newest shots comes word that Audi's reworked flagship will be available with a host of new powerplants.

According to reports, Audi's range-topper will continue to be available with a V12, but it's expected to grow from 6.1- to 6.5-liters and exceed 500 horsepower -- 50 hp more than the outgoing twelve. Stepping down from that would be a supercharged V8 with more than 400 horsepower and a cylinder management system that could shut down up to four cylinders.

To really get the gas mileage going, however, Audi is reportedly working on a new 2.0-liter diesel with two turbos that pumps out more than 200 horsepower. If the new powerplant comes to market, it would match Mercedes-Benz' BlueEfficiency four-cylinder in the S-Class. The new A8 is expected to debut at the Detroit Auto Show this January, with sales beginning in late 2010.

2010 Kia Sportage Crossover Caught Testing in Germany

2010 Kia Sportage Crossover in Germany

Spy photos surfaced earlier this week showing the 2010 Kia Sportage. The third-generation of the compact SUV will share the same platform as the 2010 Hyundai ix35, with a roofline and windshield rake seen on the 2010 Kia Sorento.

2010 Kia Sportage Crossover in Germany

Rumor has it that the vehicle will receive both the 2.0-liter petrol found on the ix35, and a diesel, 2.0-liter R-series engine. Those generate 123 kW (165 hp) and 135 kW (180 hp), respectively. Some suggest that a V6 petrol may also be available in markets like the US, where a bigger engine offering is a competitive necessity. The vehicle will have available six-speed automatic and manual transmissions in many markets.

2010 Kia Sportage Crossover in Germany

Kia has placed the Sportage as a roomy, five-seat alternative to the seven-seat Sorento. Although smaller, the pictures appear to show a vehicle with no shortage of cargo space.

2010 Kia Sportage Crossover in Germany

Although the vehicle looks almost ready for production, it could be several months away from an official introduction. Some suggest that the car will be released on the European market first, which makes the 2010 Geneva Motor Show a possible location for a curtain call. However, the attention automakers garner at the LA and Detroit shows will make those shows hard for Kia to pass up.

Audi A1 Prototype Caught for First Time

    2011 Audi A1 Prototype

Spies have caught the first images of the Audi A1 prototype being taken around the block. BMW-style black & white psychedelic camo cannot do enough to hide the Audi front grille. Just from these pictures it appears the car will have a longer wheelbase than its chief rivals. An Audi executive was recently quoted as saying several body variants were possible. Clearly this is a 3-door but a 5-door, a Cabriolet and a possible coupe/ roadster can be expected. Even an SUV cannot be discounted.

    2011 Audi A1 Prototype

Audi is not yet at a stage where customers in the US are prepared to part with premium cash for an ultra-compact model. Therefore the A1 will not be launched for this market, not until such time as public attitudes at least improve.

    2011 Audi A1 Prototype

Engines would include a 1.8-litre TSI, some diesel units as well as hybrid or full-on electric. Drive would be placed mainly on the front wheels but a possible S1 might take a leaf from bigger S cars and use quattro AWD.

Whether the A1 eventually looks more like the Metroproject Concept remains to be seen.
