It’s official! Vauxhall has confirmed that it will build a convertible version of the Astra that will hit the road in 2013.
The new Cabrio is part of the company’s €11 billion investment pledge announced a year ago as part of its plan for the future, which also includes the all-new Zafira and the Ampera range extender. 2013 is also the year when Vauxhall’s junior city car is scheduled to arrive.
Just as with the previous Astra TwinTop convertible, the new cabrio will use the underpinnings of the current five-door Astra and SportsTourer and will be built at Opel’s Gliwice plant in Poland, alongside other Astra models.
“The new Convertible will be a great addition to our product lineup,” said Vauxhall boss Nick Reilly. “It follows the long-standing tradition of highly emotional and legendary Opel/Vauxhall Cabrios that provided important halo effects on our brand. With its sleek and elegant design, our new Convertible will fully deliver on that same promise.”
Further details, such as the car’s name, price and spec, will be announced closer to launch. This will also include whether the car will continue with a folding metal hard top roof, of revert to a canvas top. For more details click here.
