New Car: 2010 Chevrolet Agile

A few weeks ago, we brought you sketches of a new small Chevrolet car for the South American market known as the Agile. Today, we have the first official picture of the car.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look much like the sketches, or the concept. In fact, it kind of looks like a now-dead Pontiac Vibe with a Chevrolet nose and Chrysler Sebring headlights. It isn't an offensive design, but it isn't as modern and interesting as the sketches, which is a shame since the sketches showed a good-looking small car.

Little is known about the car at this point. As we understand it, the Agile has been designed in Brazil using the new Viva platform believed to underpin several new GM cars worldwide. The Viva family of cars is expected to produce a car for the U.S. to replace the aging Chevrolet Aveo, though we don't know yet which one it will be. In fact, we don't know if it will even be called Aveo, Viva, Agile, or something else altogether.

We do know, however, that it won't be this car since our own Todd Lassa saw the Aveo replacement at GM's product expo last week and confirmed that is is in fact the quad-headlight hatch we caught track testing. We believe the U.S. spec car will in fact be called the Viva and will be built in the Lake Orion, Michigan, small car plant. While this Agile won't be the Aveo replacement, it's still possible it could be called on to serve as another small car in Chevrolet's North American lineup.
