Fiat boss Sergio Marchionne has denied that a tie-in with Suzuki could follow if his company succeeds in its takeover of Opel.
Suzuki already has ties with Fiat and Opel, and speculation has suggested it could join an expanded Fiat if it took over Opel and Chrysler. The company builds the Opel/Vauxhall Agila and the Fiat Sedici cars at its plant in Esztergom, in Hungary.
"It is nonsense," said Marchionne at an event in Turin.
Marchionne also told reporters that he is confident he will successfully close the deal to merge Fiat and Opel/Vauxhall by the end of the month.
He said Fiat's engine, platform and industrial experience gave it the edge over competing bids.
"This is our daily job, others want to start doing it," he said, referring to rival Opel bidder Magna, which is chiefly a car parts supplier.
