These are the first official images of the Skoda Yeti, the Czech manufacturer's compact SUV and a likely rival for the Ford Kuga.
The Yeti is a 4.2m-long five-door hatchback that's based on a unique mix of VW Group four-wheel drive hardware and chassis parts from the Fabia and Octavia. Skoda's designers have stuck reasonably close to the original concept's looks, and the chunky styling is helped by 17in alloys.

Five engines will be offered: two petrols and three diesels. The entry-level unit is a turbocharged 1.2-litre TSI unit with 103bhp; it's available with front-wheel drive only. The four-wheel-drive petrol model uses a 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 158bhp.
The three diesel options are all common-rail units; the base 109bhp unit is available with two-wheel drive only, while the two more potent motors (138bhp and 168bhp) come with four-wheel drive.

Skoda is also claiming considerable levels of practicality; the Yeti offers 1760 litres of boot space with its rear seats folded down, and features a luggage cover and a cargo net.
No prices or trim levels have been released for the Yeti, but the car is due on sale in the UK in September.
